Settings
The Settings section of the Admin Console contains the following pages:
- Platform Settings: Settings that apply to your whole platform, such as automatic logout on shared workstations.
- New Tab Page: Replace HERE's default new tab page with content your organization has already added.
- Languages: Choose the interface languages your users can select, and upload your own translations.
Platform Settings
Always Logout on Exit
If HERE Enterprise Browser runs on shared workstations, where several users work sequential shifts on the same machine, you can set the platform to log users out automatically when they finish. Each user's session ends cleanly, and the next user can log in right away, without waiting for HERE to start up again and without inheriting the previous user's session, credentials, or app state.
This behavior is controlled by the Always Logout on Exit setting. The setting applies to your whole platform; it can't be set for individual users or groups, and users can't change it.
Always Logout on Exit is off by default.
When the setting is off
HERE Enterprise Browser behaves as described in Closing windows and quitting. Closing windows or quitting doesn't log the user out automatically.
When the setting is on
What happens depends on how the user finishes:
-
Closing the last browser window, or logging out: The current user's session ends, and the login screen appears. HERE Enterprise Browser keeps running, so the next user can log in immediately, with no manual steps.
-
Quitting: The current user's session ends, and HERE Enterprise Browser stops running, the same way quitting works when the setting is off. The login screen doesn't appear; the next user sees it when they start HERE Enterprise Browser again.
Whichever way the session ends:
- All apps running in HERE Enterprise Browser log out at the same time, not just the browser.
- Data, credentials, and state from the session are cleared, so the next session starts clean.
- Sessions with third-party identity providers, such as Okta or Ping Identity, are also ended. The login screen reflects the identity provider configured for your platform.
The setting covers all of these behaviors together; you can't turn on logout for closing the last window separately from logout for quitting.
Turn automatic logout on or off
-
In the Admin Console, go to Settings > Platform Settings.
-
Turn Always Logout on Exit on or off.
New Tab Page
By default, new tabs and new windows show HERE's default new tab page, with featured content and search. You can replace it with content your organization has already added to the Admin Console, such as a branded internal search page or a dashboard, so users land directly on your own tools.
The setting applies to all users on your platform. It takes effect without a restart, and without any developer work or code changes. Users who already have HERE Enterprise Browser running see the change the next time HERE refreshes their platform settings, or when they open a new window.
Content you can use
You can't enter a URL directly. Instead, you select content that is already set up in the Admin Console. To appear in the list of choices, the content must meet all of the following conditions:
- It is a web app, not a desktop app.
- It isn't set to run as a single instance (a singleton app).
- Access is granted to the All Users group.
- It is active.
To use a page that isn't set up yet, first add it as a web app and grant access to All Users.
If you turn on Allow HERE API Access for the content, it can use HERE APIs to launch apps, supertabs, or collections directly from the new tab page.
Where the content appears
By default, the selected content appears in every new tab that a user opens, and in new windows.
If you turn on Set content for new windows, the selected content appears only when a new window opens: when a user starts HERE Enterprise Browser, or selects New Window from the browser menu. Any tab that the user opens after that shows HERE's default new tab page.
When HERE's default new tab page appears instead
HERE's default new tab page appears in the following cases:
- You haven't selected any content (the Default option is selected).
- The selected content no longer meets the conditions for use as a new tab page; for example, it's deactivated or deleted, or it loses access for All Users.
In the second case, your selection stays saved. If the content meets the conditions again later, it's used again as the new tab page.
Set the new tab page
-
In the Admin Console, go to Settings > New Tab Page.
-
Select Custom.
-
Search for the content you want to use, and select it.
-
(Optional) To show the content only in new windows, rather than in every new tab, turn on Set content for new windows.
-
Click Save, and confirm your change in the dialog that appears.
Restore HERE's default new tab page
-
In the Admin Console, go to Settings > New Tab Page.
-
Select Default.
-
Click Save, and confirm your change in the dialog that appears.
Languages
English (US) is the default interface language for every user. On the Languages page, you choose which other languages your users can select, and you can upload your own translations. Users choose a language from the browser menu; see Change the interface language.
Translations apply to the text in the HERE Enterprise Browser interface. The following aren't translated:
- Dock and the Notification Center
- The Admin Console
- Websites and web apps that users open in tabs
Also note the following limitations:
- For right-to-left languages, such as Arabic and Hebrew, the interface layout isn't mirrored.
- Interface elements don't resize to fit translated text that's longer than the English text.
The language list
The Languages page lists every supported language, with the following columns:
- Language: The display name of the language, such as Spanish (Spain).
- Language Tag: The language's locale code, such as
es-ES. - Status: One of the following:
- Blank: No language pack is loaded for the language.
- Active: A language pack is loaded, and users can select the language.
- Inactive: A language pack is loaded, but users can't select the language.
You can search the list, and filter it by status. You can't add a language that isn't in the list.
HERE provides and maintains language packs for the following languages:
- English (US),
en-US - German (Germany),
de-DE - Spanish (Spain),
es-ES - French (France),
fr-FR
All other languages start with no language pack. To make one of them available, you upload your own translation file. You can also replace a HERE-provided pack with your own file.
Prepare a translation file
A translation file, or language pack, is a JSON file that maps each text label used in the HERE Enterprise Browser interface to its translated text. The Admin Console accepts only JSON files.
To start a translation, download the template file. It contains every text label that HERE Enterprise Browser uses, with the English text filled in. HERE updates the template whenever new labels are added, so the template you download is always current.
-
In the Admin Console, go to Settings > Languages.
-
Click Download reference template here, below the search box. The link is also available in the Upload Language Pack dialog.
-
Replace the English text for each label with your translation. Keep any placeholders that appear in the English text, such as a slot for a user name.
Upload a language pack
You upload a file for one language at a time.
-
In the Admin Console, go to Settings > Languages.
-
Find the language you want, and do one of the following:
- If the language has no pack, click the upload arrow at the end of its row.
- If the language already has a pack, click the ⋮ menu at the end of its row, and select Replace File…. The new file replaces the current pack in a single step.
The Upload Language Pack dialog opens.
-
Click Browse Files to select your JSON file, or drag the file onto the dialog. The file is checked as soon as you add it. See File checks.
-
If the file has errors, fix them and add the file again. If the file has only warnings, review them; you can continue, or fix the file and add it again.
-
Click Add. The change is staged, but not yet saved.
-
Repeat these steps for any other languages you want to update.
-
Click Save at the top of the page.
After you save, a new language pack is Active, unless you set it to inactive before saving.
No change on the Languages page takes effect until you click Save. To discard all unsaved changes, click Cancel. If you leave the page without saving, your unsaved changes are discarded, without a warning.
File checks
When you add a file, the Admin Console checks it for errors and warnings. Each message states the problem, where it is (the line number and label name), and what to do about it.
The file is rejected, and nothing is staged, if any of the following is true:
- The file isn't a JSON file.
- The file can't be read.
- The same label is listed more than once.
- The text for a label is blank.
The file is accepted with warnings in the following cases:
- Some labels have no translation. English text appears in those places.
- The file contains labels that HERE Enterprise Browser doesn't use. These labels are listed in their own group.
- A label is missing a placeholder that its English text uses, such as a slot for a user name. These labels are listed in their own group.
If you continue past warnings, the language's row shows a warning marker. Hovering over the marker shows the message "New or missing translations. Re-upload the language pack."
The warning marker also appears when a new release of HERE Enterprise Browser adds text labels that a loaded language pack doesn't contain. To clear the marker, download the current template, add the missing translations to your file, and replace the pack.
Any label without a translation is shown in English, so the interface always displays text. Users don't see a warning when text is shown in English.
Manage a language pack
To manage a language that has a pack, click the ⋮ menu at the end of its row. The menu contains the following options:
- Set as Active or Set as Inactive: Make the language available to users, or hide it from them. The pack stays loaded either way.
- Download: Download the current pack.
- Replace File…: Upload a new file to replace the current pack. See Upload a language pack.
- Reset to Default: For HERE-provided packs only. Replace your uploaded file with HERE's pack.
- Delete: For packs you uploaded only. Remove the pack; the language stays in the list, with no pack. HERE-provided packs can't be deleted.
As with uploads, these changes take effect only when you click Save.
Auditing
Every upload and deletion of a language pack is recorded in the Audit Viewer, with the file name, the time, and the admin who made the change. See Changes logged.
Self-hosted environments
Uploading, storing, and loading language packs works if you run HERE Enterprise Browser in your own environment, including environments with restricted or no external network access.
